Motivation:Renault was nominated for his work to promote international law. He contributed greatly in establishing the field as a respected academic discipline, and published several major works together with his colleague Lyon-Caen. Renault represented France at numerous international conferences, and he was considered an important factor to the success of the Peace Conferences at The Hague in 1899 and 1907.
